A/B TESTING
STRATEGY
Using color to create contrast is key to making thumbnails pop. For this design, I chose a bold teal background to make the creator’s orange jumpsuit stand out, instantly guiding attention. This color shift didn’t just highlight the subject. This also turned the thumbnail’s tone from bleak to inviting, making it more engaging and approachable.
In this thumbnail, the design is strategically crafted to feature a clear, close-up shot of the video’s subject. This choice leverages the psychological impact of displaying a person’s face, which naturally captures attention more effectively as viewers scroll through related content. An unobstructed face not only conveys instant recognition if the subject is familiar but also fosters a sense of connection, making the thumbnail engaging and relatable to new audiences.
We tested audience reception and observed a noticeable boost when focusing on text clarity and legibility. This was evaluated using two strategies: one featuring text highlighted by a human subject looking toward it, and the other emphasizing key words to capture interest.
